On 06 February 2026, the Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), a constituent of KIIT Deemed to be University, hosted an impactful Anti-Ragging Workshop module by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The session marked yet another significant step toward strengthening student welfare, reinforcing institutional values, and ensuring a safe academic environment for every aspiring dental professional.

Leadership and Participation

The workshop was led by Dr. Pramod, Honorable Member of the Dental Council of India. His presence underscored the importance of proactive engagement in eliminating ragging from professional institutions across the country.

The session witnessed the participation of the KIDS Anti-Ragging Committee members, first-year BDS students, mentors under the structured Mentor–Mentee system, student coordinators, and senior management. The honorable Director, Deputy Director, Principal, and Vice-Principal of KIDS also attended, reflecting the institution’s top-level commitment to student safety and well-being.

Such inclusive participation ensured that the conversation around anti-ragging was not limited to policy but extended into practice, culture, and collective responsibility.

Creating Awareness and Building Trust

The workshop focused on educating students about what constitutes ragging, its legal implications, and the psychological and professional harm it can cause. At Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), we recognize the long-term emotional and academic impact it can have on students.

Dr. Pramod highlighted that awareness is the first step toward prevention. Students were encouraged to:

  • Understand their rights
  • Recognize unacceptable behavior
  • Speak up without fear
  • Support peers who may feel vulnerable

Importantly, the workshop emphasized that a culture of mutual respect begins with everyday interactions, in classrooms, hostels, clinics, and student gatherings.

Strengthening the Mentor–Mentee System

One of the highlights of the session was the emphasis on the Mentor–Mentee framework at KIDS. First-year BDS students were assured that they have constant guidance and support as they begin their journey into professional dental education.

Senior students, mentors, and faculty members are assigned to guide them academically and emotionally. This structured system transforms what could be a stressful phase into a supportive and enriching journey.

By formalizing mentorship, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) ensures that seniors and juniors interact in a positive and motivational manner, promoting learning, and mutual growth.

Introducing the Anti-Ragging Committee and Coordinators

Transparency and accessibility are crucial elements in combating ragging. During the workshop, students were formally introduced to the members of the Anti-Ragging Committee at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) and student coordinators.

They were encouraged to reach out immediately if they:

  • Experience any form of harassment
  • Witness inappropriate behavior
  • Feel uncomfortable in any academic or residential setting

Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) has established clear reporting channels and assures confidentiality and protection for complainants.

A Shared Commitment to Student Well-Being

The Anti-Ragging Workshop reaffirmed the shared commitment between the Dental Council of India and Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) to uphold student dignity and safety.

This commitment aligns with the vision of Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT, KISS, and KIMS, who has consistently emphasized holistic education rooted in discipline, compassion, and inclusivity.

At KIDS, education extends beyond textbooks and clinical training. It includes character development, ethical values, and a sense of community.

Key Takeaways from the Workshop

The session shared several core principles of campus culture at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS):

1. Zero Tolerance Towards Ragging

There is no room for ragging in any form — physical, verbal, psychological, or digital. Strict action will be taken against violations.

2. Open Communication and Mutual Respect

Healthy senior–junior relationships must be based on encouragement, collaboration, and empathy.

3. Strong Support Systems

With an active Anti-Ragging Committee, student coordinators, and mentors, multiple layers of support are readily available.

4. A Safe, Inclusive Learning Environment

Every BDS student deserves an enriching academic experience free from fear or discrimination.

Moving Forward Together

This workshop reaffirmed the shared commitment of Dental Council of India (DCI) and Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) to student safety, well-being, and a positive learning environment staying true to the goal of our Honorable Founder Prof. (Dr.) Achyuta Samanta, Founder KIIT, KISS and KIMS.
