2-Day Prosthetic Workshop at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS)

On 5–6 February 2026, the Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), a constituent of KIIT Deemed to be University, successfully conducted a comprehensive two-day Prosthetic Workshop from 9 AM to 4 PM. The program brought together students, interns, postgraduates, and faculty members for an enriching academic and clinical experience focused on implant prosthodontics and full mouth rehabilitation.

Organized by the Department of Prosthodontics at KIDS, the workshop reflected the institution’s continuous effort to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real-world clinical practice.

Expert Leadership and Academic Collaboration

The workshop was led by Ramesh Chowdhury, a senior practitioner, implant specialist, and consultant from Karnataka with extensive clinical experience in implant dentistry and prosthetic rehabilitation.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from BDS students, interns, postgraduates from all departments, senior faculty members, and Heads of Departments. The presence of such a diverse academic audience ensured meaningful interdisciplinary discussions and a holistic learning atmosphere.

In recognition of his invaluable contribution, Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Chowdhury was felicitated by the Honorable Director of KIDS, Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi, along with esteemed senior faculty members. The gesture symbolized KIDS’ appreciation for clinical excellence and knowledge sharing.

Day 1: Strengthening Foundations Through Theory

The first day of the workshop was dedicated to comprehensive theory sessions that laid a strong conceptual foundation for participants.

Fundamentals of Dental Implant Placement

Prof. Chowdhury began with an in-depth discussion on the principles of implant dentistry, including case selection, diagnostic planning, and surgical considerations. Students gained clarity on the biological and mechanical factors that influence successful implant placement.

Importance of Prosthetic Fabrication and Placement

A key highlight of the session was understanding how correct prosthetic design directly impacts implant longevity. The speaker emphasized that implant success does not rely solely on surgical placement but equally on accurate prosthetic fabrication and occlusal harmony.

Managing Implant and Prosthetic Complications

The session also addressed common implant-related and prosthetic complications. Participants were guided on early identification, prevention strategies, and management protocols. Real-life case scenarios helped bridge the gap between textbook knowledge and practical challenges.

The interactive format encouraged students to ask questions, analyze cases, and think critically about treatment planning.

Day 2: Live Clinical Demonstration and Case Discussion

The second day transitioned from theory to clinical application, offering participants hands-on exposure to advanced implant procedures.

Live Dental Implant Placement with Full Mouth Rehabilitation (FMR)

A live demonstration of dental implant placement using DIO implants was conducted, integrated into a Full Mouth Rehabilitation (FMR) case. The demonstration provided a step-by-step understanding of surgical technique, prosthetic considerations, and patient management.

Observing the procedure in real time allowed students to appreciate clinical precision, aseptic protocol, and workflow coordination in implant dentistry.

Case Review and Treatment Planning

Following the live procedure, a detailed clinical discussion was held. Students were encouraged to evaluate the case, understand diagnostic decisions, and discuss alternative treatment plans. This collaborative analysis enhanced their clinical reasoning skills and decision-making abilities.

By integrating theory with live clinical exposure, the workshop delivered a powerful learning experience that went beyond conventional classroom teaching.

A Commitment to Clinical Excellence at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS)

At Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), we are committed to bringing experienced dental practitioners from across India and around the world to share their invaluable clinical expertise with our BDS students, interns, and postgraduates.
