Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, in association with the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Mumbai, successfully organized a historic five-day dental mega-event from January 7–11, 2026—the first of its kind in Odisha and India to integrate dentistry with sports science. The event brought together the Odisha Dental Show, UDAAN (academic and cultural showcase), and the All-India Sports Dental Summit.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by eminent national dignitaries including Dr. Ashok Dhoble (Secretary General, IDA), Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi (Director, KIDS), Dr. Subhra Nandy (President, IDA), and Dr. Subash Nayak (Hon. Secretary, IDA Odisha), highlighting the national significance of the summit.
Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi, inspired by the mission of Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, KIIT provided international-standard sports infrastructure, reinforcing the vital link between oral health and athletic performance. The Odisha Dental Show featured a major trade exhibition showcasing the latest dental technologies, while inter-state sports competitions saw participation from teams across India.
The event also emphasized community outreach, showcasing KIDS’ impactful work in oral cancer awareness and public health services across Odisha. UDAAN highlighted academic excellence and cultural talent through paper presentations and cultural performances. The summit concluded with the IDA Odisha Marathon – “Run for Oral Health”, promoting public awareness and wellness.
Overall, the mega-event set a new benchmark for dental conferences in India, positioning Odisha as a national hub for sports dentistry, and establishing a holistic model that integrates education, sports, culture, and community service for the future of Indian dentistry.
