Oral Pathology – The Current Indian Scenario and Future Scope

On 13th July 2019, KIIT Deemed to be University Hosted the Faculty Workshop by Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists. The workshop was titled – “Oral Pathology – The Current Indian Scenario and future Scope”. More than 50 senior as well as young faculties across India participated and discussed about the reforms which can be implemented in the curriculum of BDS and MDS students as well as policies of government towards Oral Pathology. The faculties were divided into four groups and each group was given a topic for discussion. The various topics being, 1) Curricular enhancement and modification in examination pattern, 2) Avenues for increasing Job Opportunities, 3) Research prospects for oral pathologists and new horizons; and 4) Signatory authority for hematology, oral histopathology, and oral oncology reports.
The minutes of the meeting along with suggestions for reform were compiled and will be submitted to Dental Council of India and Ministry of Health and Family Wellfare, Govt. of India.
KIIT DU was instrumental for the entire event for which Dr. Srinivas Vanaki and Dr. Alka Kale thanked the University for all the support provided.

XVIII National IAOMP Post Graduate Convention

The XVIII National IAOMP Post Graduate convention was organized by Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, on 13th and 14th July 2019 at KIIT Convention Center where more than 250 Delegates across India comprising of Senior Faculty Members and Post Graduate students participated with full enthusiasm.

Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) entrusted KIDS, KIIT DU, to conduct the national event after being mesmerized by the infrastructure and research facilities available at KIIT. The two days scientific extravaganza was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Harish Kumar as the Organizing Chairperson and Dr. Abikshyeet Panda as the Organizing Secretary. Senior Faculties and Post graduate students as well as practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists poured in from various parts of India from Various Dental Colleges.

Prof. Hrushikesh Mohanty, Honourable Vice Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University; and Dr. Amrendra Mohapatra, Deputy Director, RMRC, ICMR, Bhubaneswar inaugurated the event along with Prof. Dr. Veerendra Kumar, Hon. Presidet, IAOMP, and Prof. Dr. Nadeem Jeddy, Hon. Secretary, IAOMP. Prof. Mohanty welcomed the delegates across India for scientific collaboration with KIIT DU in order to carry out world class research and innovation. He encouraged interdisciplinary research and promised to facilitate the same at KIIT DU. Dr. Mohapatra enlightened the delegates about various funding avenues by ICMR and encouraged the scientific acumen to utilize it for the benefit of Nation. Dr. Veerendra kumar appreciated KIDS as well as KIIT DU for providing IAOMP the platform to host the National Event and said KIIT DU to be the perfect scientific destination, Dr. Nadeem Thanked the Organizing team as well as KIIT DU for successfully organizing the event with perfection.

Prof. Dr. Balaji Manohar, Principal, KIDS and Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi, Asst. Director, KIDS, monitored the smooth execution of the event and moulded the team for their better performance.

The Convention harbored 10 Special scientific deliberations on various avenues of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology like cancer stem cells, Stem cell research, Tumor microenvironment, Omics based diagnostic approach, Application of Pathology in General Practice, Communication Skills, Stress and its repercussion on Nicotine dependency, Animal Studies and its applications, Future of Oral Pathologists in India and abroad, were delivered in the event. A Special case discussion series was also conducted during the scientific event where 20 interesting cases which posed diagnostic dilemmas were discussed. The theme of the convention being, “Oral Pathology – What Next?” was apt for the event. There were 59 Scientific Student Papers, 44 Scientific Student Posters, 19 scientific faculty papers and 1 scientific faculty poster presented in the convention.

The scientific convention was appreciated hugely across India and lot of Positive Feedback were received by the organizing team regarding the time management, choice of speakers, quality of talks, and hospitality provided by KIIT DU. During the valediction Dr. Veerendra and Dr. Nadeem announced the event to be a grand success and said this event set a benchmark in the History of IAOMP. They congratulated Dr. Abikshyeet Panda, the Organizing Secretary and his team as well as KIDS, KIIT University for putting a great effort for a successful national convention.

World no Tobacco Day - 2019

World No Tobacco Week-2019 was observed by the Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University, BBSR from Saturday, 25thof May till Friday, 31st of May, 2019 with the theme #tobacco and lung health. A week’s program was initiated by the Department faculties, Post graduates and the interns. Initiative was made to educate various cohorts of population about the ill effects of tobacco on oral and systemic health. Atheme-based painting and slogan writing competition was hosted by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, along with an awareness program among thetransport officials of KIIT University on 25th May 10am onwards. On 27th May (Monday) the security guards were educated on the effects of tobacco in the college campus. A visit was made to the “HizraBasti”, VaniVihar to educate the transgender on the same later that evening. On 28th May (Tuesday)an awareness program was conducted among the railway workshop employees in Mancheswar. Flash mob and NukkadNatak was organized at Bhawani Mall from 6pm onwards on 29th May, 2019 to spread awareness among the common people. The slum dwellers were educated regarding the same on 30th May (Thursday). On World No Tobacco Day, the team of doctors visited the Police Academy to educate the police recruits about the harmful effects of tobacco and to encourage them to help improve the tobacco epidemic in India.A rally was flagged by Dr.JugajothiPathi, Asst. Director (Admin), KIDS and Dr.BalajiManohar, Principal KIDS, ehich started from the College to Infocity square; shouting Anti-Tobacco slogans and distributing pamphlets among general public.

“KOSISH- an oral health Promotion initiative” by the Department of Public Health Dentistry in association with Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences was launched with the aim of reaching the maximum population and improving their access and knowledge towards maintaining oral hygiene. Inauguration of this program was done in the auditorium, KIDS by Dr.BalajiManohar, Principal KIDS, Dr.Ramesh Ch. Dash, Director, KIDS, Dr.JugajothiPathi, Asst. Director (Admin), KIDS,Dr.Gunjan Kumar, Dr.Dhirendrakumar Singh

KIDS Assistant Director Received National Award

One of  the most dynamic and energetic Officials of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT DU, Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi, MDS, Assistant  Director (Admin.) received National Distinguished Administrative Award "Indian Health Professional Awards 2018", for his outstanding achievement as administrative in-charge & distinguished contributions for dentistry in India.

Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi received this prestigious award from legendary hokey player of India, Padmashree & Arjun awardee, Mr. Dhanraj Pillai at a glittering award ceremony held at, Panjim , Capital City of Goa on 26th January,  2019.

In this context, Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS has congratulated Dr. Pathi  for his significant achievement and wished all the best for all of his future endeavors.

KIDS organizes National Conference on Dental Implantology “IMPLACON”-2018

Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, successfully organized “IMPLACON”-2018, National Conference exclusively on Dental Implantology under the able leadership of Dr. Jugojyoti Pathi, Assistant Director (ADMIN), KIDS.

The scientific programme comprised of Keynote Lectures by Eminent Speakers like Dr. A. Kumaraswamy, Senior Periodontist from Mumbai, Dr. M. Reddy from Hyderabad, Dr. Nitin Vaidya from Raipur, Dr. J. Teja from Chandigarh, Dr. Dhruv Arora from New Delhi, Dr. Akshay Daga from Nagpur, Dr. Veerendra Kumar S.C. from Bengaluru and Mr. Mohit Suryavanshi from Kolhapur.

Keynote lectures were followed by scientific paper and poster presentations by the Faculty members and Post Graduate students of various Institutes, which were well appreciated. The event was attended by more than 350 delegates from across the Country

In order to propagate and instigate the message of cleanliness among the people living in &the surrounding areas, students and staff members of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) under the eminent leadership of its Director Prof. (Dr.) R. C. Das and Assistant Director (Admin.) Dr. JugajyotiPathi observe  Swachh Bharat Mission on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti i.e. 2nd October 2018.At Dental College Campus.

Before commencing the cleansing activities on part of “Swachh Bharat Mission“, a noble initiative propounded by the Prime Minister of India Sri NarendraModi, students and staff members of the KIDS &KIIT Group of Institutions got assembled at Exhibition Ground, KIIT Convention Centre at early in the morning of 2nd October .

Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor of KIIT Deemed University, Prof. HrushikeshMohanty said, “Swachhata Hi Sabhyata”(Cleanliness is Civilization). On this auspicious day, we should take oath to keep our campus and surroundings clean and green to offer befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his 150th Birth Anniversary Year.”

Placing the welcome address, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar, KIIT Deemed University said, “KIIT has often been emphasizing such cleansing drive for years by virtue of our enthusiastic students and committed staff members. As we are celebrating the 150th Birth Anniversary Year of Mahatma Gandhi, we should be more committed to accomplish this mission in a meticulous manner.

National Seminar held at Kalinga Institute of Dental Science

Department of Periodontics & Oral Implantology, KIDS, In association with Indian Society of Periodontology ( ISP) organized two days national seminar on the theme “Soft & Hard Tissue Augmentation in Periodontics” from 11th to 12th August 2018 at Dental Auditorium, KIDS, KIIT Deemed to be University, Campus 5. Under the eminent leadership of Dr. Jugajyoti Pathi, Asst. Director (Admin.) Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences. Key Note Speakers of the event were, Prof. (Dr.) Farhan Durrani, Head of the Department of Periodontics, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. Varanasi, sir delivered his lecture on the topic “Esthetic Tissue Reconstruction around Teeth & Implant and also performed live surgery on Connective tissue grafting. Second Key note lecture was delivered by Dr. Amit Benjamin from YMTDC, Navi Mumbai, on the topic “Bone Augmentation in Posterior Maxilla: A Predicament, Sir performed his live surgery on direct maxillary sinus lift procedure. Event was graced with other eminent national speakers like, Prof. ( Dr.) Nitin Dani, Honb’l President Indian Society of Periodontology, Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Kolte, Honb’l Secretory, Indian Society of Periodontology, Dr. Asish Jain, from HSDC, Chandigarh, Dr. Sachin Mamidwar, CEO, Orthogen LLC, USA, Dr. Anirban Chatterjee, from oxford Dental College, Bengaluru. National Oral Hygiene Day Celebration at KIDS 

Department of Periodontics & Oral Implantology, KIDS, KIIT – Deemed to be University, celebrated National Oral Hygiene Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the doyen of Indian Periodontology, Prof. G. B. Shankwalkar, in association with Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP). Under the Eminent leadership of our Asst. Director (Admin), Dr. JugajyotiPathi& coordinated by Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Singh, Reader,  Prof. Md. Jalaluddin, HOD, Department of Periodontology, KIDS.

Following the occasion the team of doctors from the Department of Periodontology, KIDS, visited UtkalBalashrama, Cuttack on 28th of July 2018, there more than 250 orphan children joined us, the team of Interns and final year students from KIDS, demonstrated proper tooth brushing methods, they also performed a NukkadNatak on the importance of oral hygiene & systemic health. Following the event, we distributed evening snacks & refreshment along with free tooth brush and tooth paste samples to children of ashrama.
We visited Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University, (the only tribal University in the world in private sector) campus on 31st July where the team of doctors & Interns from KIDS interacted with the students of KISS and delivered a talk on the importance of oral hygiene maintenance on daily routine life, we also demonstrated them the proper tooth brushing method with audio visual aids, following the event we distributed free tooth brush and tooth paste samples to young students of University. Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Singh answered the queries of indigenous tribal students regarding maintenance of oral hygiene in daily routine life.
On 1st August 2018, at the auditorium of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, a scientific program was organized where Prof. (Dr.) Md. Jalaluddin HOD, Periodontology, KIDS & Dr. Kailash Chandra Dash, Reader from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, KIDS, delivered lectures on advanced methods of oral hygiene practice & methods. Event was graced by eminent faculty members, Students and Interns of KIDS.

After the completion of scientific events, certificate of participation was distributed to students & Interns& Faculty members enrolled for the National Oral Hygiene Day 2018. Stage was hosted by Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Singh.

1st August 2017 was observed by Department of Periodontlogy and Oral Implantology, KIDS, KIIT,Bhubaneswar.  This function was graced by an eminent social activist Shri Sujit Mahapatra from Bakul foundation and our Director and Principal sir. This day was celebrated by conducting dental quiz, scientific presentation by Dr.  Dhirendra K Singh and essay competition along with visit to Bakul Foundation, Satyanagar with the whole team for spreading oral hygiene awareness by distributing oral hygiene aids among the school students. Dept. Of conservative dentistry and Endodontics, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT University had organized a CDE programme –cum –workshop on “Magnification in dentistry” from 26TH  TO 28TH  JULY 2018. This is the first ever 3 day workshop to be organised in INDIA solely on magnification with complete hands on course for participants under the guidance of esteemed guest speaker, Dr. Anuj Bhardwaj. Dr. K. S. Banga, President of Indian Endodontic society was the chief guest of this event.  The event was also graced by The Director, Asst. Director and Principal Of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT University.

KIDS Celebrated World Environment Day 2018

The environment is a cradle in which a healthy civilization flourishes. This generation has become an age of plastic, making it a ubiquitous non-biodegradable source of pollutant that is poisoning our beautiful planet earth. This “plastic blight” is slowly casting a dark age on the living world. Undertaking this concern, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT Deemed to be University, celebrated World Environment Day with the theme “No Plastic Pollution” - If you can’t reuse it, refuse it. on 5th June 2018.
In this, the significance of a clean environment was discussed with the common mass followed by Sapling distribution and plantation program.
Dr. jugajyoti Pathi, Asst. Director, KIDS(Admin), graced the occasion by his eminent presence, he also enlightened all with his motivational speech infusing the spirit of “green love” on and the fundamental importance of our environment. The event was organized in the leadership of Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Singh, Reader, Department of Periodontics & Oral Implantology, KIDS.

International Art of Giving Day Celebrated by Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS)

Under the eminent guidance and supervision of Dr. JugajyotiPathi, Assistant Director (Admin.) KIDS, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences celebrated the 5th anniversary celebration of International Art of Giving Day on 17th April 2018 at UtkalBalashrama, Cuttack, where Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Singh, Reader, KIDS, distributed food packets & snacks to more than 150 orphan children. The theme this year’s celebration was “PyaarBhara Pack” – Feeding with love – Standing on the premises of People’s Contribution, People’s Participation. Mass meals for the underprivileged were organized by generous people inspired by the philosophy of Art of Giving in more than 16,500 centers across the country. Covering all cities in all states, touching over 10 million people. Globally, this important day was celebrated in 610 centers, spread across 80 countries in six continents. “Art of Giving” is a not-for-profit initiative for spreading, supporting and promoting the practice of giving around the world. It is based on the philosophy of life of Prof. Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT- Deemed to be University & KISS - Deemed to be University & KIMS, Bhubaneswar. Who has struggled through an experience of poverty, hunger, humiliation in receiving and pleasure in giving from his childhood, He gives his credit of all his success to “Art of Giving” andhas been working relentlessly to achieve zero poverty, zero hunger and zero illiteracy since 1987.

World No Tobacco Day 2017 observed in KIDS

On the occasion of “World No Tobacco Day 2017”,  KIDS organised various activities in the Dental Hospital and as well as for the public. A guest lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar Satpathy, Director, School of Public Health, KIIT, Bhubaneswar. He enlightened the faculty members, post graduate students and interns present on various Tobacco related issues and updates. A quiz competition was also conducted for all the faculty and student members of KIDS on the theme of the event. Later a rally was flagged off by the Dr. R C Das, Director, KIDS and Dr. Shruti Dev, Principal, KIDS which started from the college Lobby and covered the KIIT campus on foot, shouting anti-tobacco slogans and distributing pamphlets. A Nukkad was performed at Master Canteen square, Bhubaneswar by the interns to encourage the public to quit the use of various forms of Tobacco.

Department of Periodontics & Oral Implantology, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), successfully conducted PEP (Professional Enrichment Program) in association with Indian Dental Association (IDA) Odisha State branch and Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP), Odisha Chapter on the topic PERIO-SAGA: Unfolded on 9th April 2017 at the Auditorium of Apollo hospital, Bhubaneswar. The occasion was graced by The President of IDA Odisha State Branch, Dr. J. Pathi, The Secretary of IDA Odisha State Branch, Dr. Subash Raj, The CDH convener IDA Odisha State branch, Dr. Rashmi Rekha Acharya, Zone Head of Apollo Hospitals Ltd. 33rd Odisha State Annual Dental Conference Inaugurated in KIDS

33rd Odisha State Annual Dental Conference organized by Indian Dental Association (IDA), Temple City branch in association with KIIT was inaugurated on Saturday in the premises of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS). Inaugurating the conference, Dr. Damodar Rout, Minister, Cooperation & Excise, Govt. of Odisha said, various kinds of diseases including cardiac problem, diabetes and hypertension have been increased day by day due to rapid industrialization, urbanization and change of life style. The number of patients with heart disease and diabetes in India is very high in comparison to the global scenario. Particularly diabetes and cardiac problems are very high in young people below the age group of fifty. These diseases have effect on various oral and dental problems. So the dentists have a vital role to play in these cases. Doctors should follow professional ethics while they are practicing their profession. Doctors should be sentimental to the patient advices Dr. Rout. Dr. Ashis Kumar Barik, President, IDA, Odisha Chapter preside over the inaugural session. Among others Dr. Suryakanta Das, President Elect, IDA, Odisha Chapter, Dr. Subhas Chandra Das, Secretary; Dr. Jugajyoti Pathy, chairman organizing committee of the conference; Dr. Biswaroop Mohanty, Secretary, Organizing Committee, Prof Ramesh Chandra Dash, Principal, KIDS and R. Oral Hygiene Day Observed at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS)

Oral Hygiene Day was observed at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) on 1st August 2015, the birthday of Dr. Govind B. Shankwalkar, a true legend & Father of Indian Periodontia.. The programme was organized by the Department of Periodontics & Oral Implantology.

The Guest speakers of the programme were Dr. T. K. Pal, Principal, Prof. & Head, Department of Periodontics, Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences & Research, Kolkata, Prof. Dr. A. K. Pal, Professor, Dept. of Periodontics and Community Dentistry, Burdwan Dental College & Hospital and Dr. Amitabh Panda, MD, National Oral Cancer Prevention Initiative (NOCPI). Prof. T. K. Pal spoke and discussed about “Oral Hygiene in Clinical Practice”. This was followed by Prof. A. K. Pal’s deliberation on “An Introduction to Oral Hygiene” and the last session by Dr Amitabh Panda on “Current Scenario of Oral Cancer in Odisha State & Role of Oral Hygiene”.

National Continuing Dental Education (CDE)  Programme conducted at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS)

National CDE program on “Current concepts in Oral Medicine and Radiology” was conducted at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences on 13th June 2015by the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology. The eminent speakers of the Lecture sessions were Dr. NGnanasundaram, Professor Emeritus, Sri Ramachandra Dental College, Chennai, Dr. Ashok L, Prof & Head, Dept of Oral Medicine & Radiology & Associate Dean, Bapuji Dental College, Davangere and Dr. M. K. Sunil, Prof& Head, Dept of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Guru Nanak Dev Dental College, Sunam. More than 250 delegates attended the National CDE program. Individual speakers delivered lectures on the recent advances in the field of oral medicine & radiology such as CBCT Imaging, Forensic Evolution and Diagnostic techniques. An inter-college quiz competition was also held by Dr. N Gnanasundaram at the end of the session.  The First prize was shared by the students of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) & Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS), Bhubaneswar.

Orientation Programme for 2015 Postgraduate (MDS) students at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences

The Orientation Programme for the Second Batch [2015-2018] Postgraduate (MDS) students was organized at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) on 8th June 2015. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Hon’ble Founder, KIIT and KISS. Other dignitaries present were Prof. Dr. R.C. Das, Principal, KIDS, Prof. Dr. Shruti Dev, Vice-Principal (Academics), KIDS, Prof. Dr. B.C.Das, Director, School of Medicine, Prof. Dr. S.B.Ogale, Principal, KIMS and Shri P. Parida, Management Representative, School of Medicine. Hon’ble Founder welcomed all the new students to the KIIT family and asked them to utilize the enormous facilities available at KIDS and KIIT for their study and research. “World No Tobacco day” observed at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS)

The Programme was organized by the Dept. of Public Health Dentistry. The theme for this year was STOP ILLICIT TRADE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS”.A comic skit was performed by the Interns of 2010 batch in the slum area near Prasanti Vihar. The skit focused on the ill effects of tobacco use and oral cancer. The skit encouraged people to refrain using tobacco of any form. The skit was enacted in oriya for the better understanding of local people.
On the 1st of June 2015, a Lecture & Interactive Session was held in the auditorium of Kalinga Institute Of Dental Sciences. Guest speaker Dr. Ranjan Mohanty, a prominent Oncosurgeongave a lecture on “Tobacco and Oral Cancer” which illustrated the many facets of oral cancer caused by tobacco use. It was followed by the re-enactment of the skit for the audience.

World Oral Health Day observed at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences

Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT and IDA Temple city observed World Oral Health Day on 20th March 2015.

  1. Mass Brushing Programme at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences
    500 students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) participated in the Mass brushing programme held as a part of World Oral Health Day observation on 20th March 2015. Students were first explained about proper brushing techniques with the help of models. They were also told about the importance of maintaining good oral health. Each of them were then given a set of Tooth brush, tooth paste and tongue cleaner with which all the students brushed their teeth under the supervision of the faculty members of KIDS.

  2. Painting Competition at KISS
    71 students participated in the painting competition organized by KIDS. The theme of the competition was “Oral Health”.

  3. Patient Awareness through Banners and Posters
    All specialty departments of KIDS prepared patient awareness banners which were displayed in the Reception area. Interns were deployed to explain the outpatients about the importance of oral health. Moreover, every department individually explained every patient about the importance of good oral health and various treatment modalities available to save their natural teeth. Patients were also shown oral self-examination procedures and asked to report to the dental surgeon whenever they see any danger signs. The importance of regular visit to a dental surgeon was also emphasized to every patient.

  4. Free Oral Health Camp
    Free Oral Health Camp was organized at two orphanages [Sri Sri Maa Ananda Ashram and Asha Kiran] in Bhubaneswar. Oral screening and scaling was done at both the centres. Tooth brushes and tooth pastes were distributed to all the children. They were also explained about the importance of maintaining good oral health.

Oral Health Awareness by IDA & KIDS

Indian Dental Association (IDA), State and Temple City Branch in association with Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT conducted oral health awareness programme at seven different schools of Bhubaneswar on 7th March 2015. On the occasion of Dentist’s Day, awareness was spread in the form of Oral Health talks, Interactive sessions with students and teachers and ways to maintain proper oral hygiene. The Schools involved were Sitanath High School, BDA colony UGUP Govt. School, Future Bhubaneswar School, Pathani Samanta Siksha Kendra, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Mahima Gyana Mandir UP School and Alasua Primary School.

KIIT Inks MoU with Mayo Clinic & University of Milano-Bicocca

KIIT signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mayo Clinic, USA on 15th January 2015. A nonprofit organization, Mayo Clinic is a global leader in medical care, research and education and has been recognized the best hospital in US. It has more than 3300 physicians, researchers and scientists.

As per the MoU, Mayo has agreed to pay KIIT a multi-year grant for the purpose of development of educational infrastructure and completion of other support activities for five years. It is a recognition to KIIT’s excellence in science and education. This is the first time Mayo Clinic has signed MoU with any Indian university.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Registrar of KIIT and Dr. Christopher K. Pierret of Mayo Clinic, in the presence of Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT, Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, Prof. D. K. Tripathy, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dr. Mrutyunjay Suar, Director of School of Biotechnology, KIIT and other officials of the two organizations.

In a related development, KIIT also entered into agreement with the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy. Dr. Sasmita Samanta, on behalf of KIIT, and Prof. Maria Cristina Messa, on behalf of University of Milano-Bicocca, signed the MoU. As per the agreement, the two universities would promote and strengthen scientific and academic cooperation by means of exchanging professors, researchers, students and staff. They would also undertake joint research activities and joint research doctoral theses.

Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) observes WORLD AIDS DAY

Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT observed World AIDS Day on 1st December, 2014 with the theme of “Zero Discrimination and Achieving an AIDS Free Generation”. The morning session was dedicated for “Awareness” with a Theme Dance, a musical drama and a video on Public opinion on AIDS & People living with AIDS. The evening was dedicated for the Nukkad Natak (Street Play) in front of Big Bazaar, Patia performed by the students of KIDS. The street play was planned to create awareness among the public about HIV infection and AIDS. The play also concentrated on the Theme of “Zero Discrimination” where it was showed how to end stigma and promote support and compassion in the society. The entire event was observed by a huge number of people. In the evening, all the students of KIDS joined in for a “Remembrance Walk” and “Candle Light Vigil” to honour those lives lost to AIDS and to remember those living with HIV infection and AIDS.

KIDS conducted Two day Seminar on Immunohistochemistry

The Department of Oral Pathology, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT, Bhubaneswar conducted IHC-TECH 2014, a two day Seminar and Hands-On Workshop on Immunohistochemistry (IHC) on 22nd and 23rd August 2014. The event is first of its kind in the state of Odisha to be conducted by any dental college. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, KIIT in the presence of Prof. Dr. B.C Das, Director School of Medicine, KIIT, Prof. Dr. R.C. Das, Principal KIDS, Prof. Dr. A. Banerjee, Organizing Chairman and Dr. Harish Kumar, Organizing Secretary. The first day consisted of lecture sessions and case discussions by two eminent Oral Pathologists Dr. Rudrayya Shivanand Puranik, from PMNM Dental College and Hospital, Bagalkot, Karnataka and Dr. Jyoti Dilip Bhavtankar from Govt. Dental College, Aurangabad. A total of 150 delegates consisting of postgraduate students, faculties and Interns from different dental colleges of Odisha and other places such as Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Pondicherry and Bagalkot attended the seminar. The entire second day was dedicated for the Hands-On Workshop on Immunohistochemistry Techniques, where all participants performed the entire procedure of IHC supervised by Dr. Abikshyeet Panda, Dr. Shyam Sundar Behura, Dr. Sujatha R, Dr. Kiran Kumar Mishra, the faculties of department of Oral Pathology, KIDS and technical professionals from Biogenex. Moreover, KIDS became the first dental college of Odisha to set up an Immunohistochemistry Laboratory under the department of Oral Pathology.

KIDS conducted Workshop on “Advanced Endodontics – with Retreatment”

A workshop on “Advanced Endodontics – with Retreatment” has been conducted by Kalinga Institute of Dental sciences (KIDS) a sister concern of KIIT in association with with Indian Dental Association (IDA) – Temple city branch. The speaker of the day was Dr. Ajit A Shaligram, an eminent Endodontist from Mumbai. In the first session, he spoke extensively about advancements in Root Canal Treatment with specific emphasis on endodontic retreatment and retrieval of broken instruments. The second session was for the workshop where delegates performed various Root Canal procedures under his guidance. A total of 130 delegates consisting of general practitioners, specialists and students from various Dental Colleges of Odisha were participated in the workshop. The program was very informative and was a great success.

KIDS & NOCPI Organize ORACON-2014

ORACON-2014 an exclusive oral cancer related conference and 2nd conference in the ORACON series was conducted on World Cancer Day 4 within the campus of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS) of KIIT. The conference was organized by National Oral Cancer Prevention Initiative (NOCPI) a national level organization working actively in the field of oral cancer and under the initiatives of UBA Foundation. The conference was supported by Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT, Bhubaneswar.

The conference started with the flagging off the Road Show regarding Oral Cancer conducted by the students of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences. The road show covered different areas of Bhubaneswar such as Vanivihar, Master canteen square, The World Square and distributed about 5000 oral cancer awareness leaflets.

The inaugural programme at KIDS was graced by eminent oncosurgeon Dr. Madhabananda Kar and eminent Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologist Prof. Dr. Bijay Kumar Das in the presence of  Dr Ramesh Ch Das, Principal KIDS and Patron of ORACON-2014.

The conference was attended by doctors from both medical and dental section where discussions were held regarding the current status of Oral Cancer in the state of Odisha and the possible ways to control it. A Panel discussion on Oral Cancer was also held where doctors interacted with eminent academicians and practitioners.

At the end of the function a CANQUIZ, an Oral cancer based Quiz competition was conducted and CANACT, a cultural programme reflecting social values of oral cancer was performed by dental students of KIDS.
